“What country, friends, is this?”

Siblings Viola and Sebastian wash up on the shores of Illyria, both believing the other to be dead. Illyria is an eerie place of light and shade, and Viola finds herself caught in a tangled web of affection between the highest rulers of the country. Meanwhile, an interrupted night of revelry leads to a plan of revenge on a pompous servant.

The play itself is both melancholy and amusing, with a strange mix of unrequited love and hilarious pranks. Played here by an ensemble cast whose characters are built from what can be found in the trunks, suitcases and hatstands that inhabit the space.

With fools turned priests, jokers turned captors, mourners turned lovers, and sister turned brother, nothing is quite what it first seems.

“If this were played upon a stage now, I could condemn it as an improbable fiction.”
